17、sofSovietwritersandphotographers.Theyaskedheraboutcameratechniques,andalsoaboutherprivatelife.Afteronegathering,severalmensurroundedherandtalkedforalongtime.TheyspokeRussian.Notknowingthelanguage,Bourke-Whitesmiledinagreementateachmanashespoke.Onlylaterdidshelearnthatshehadagreedtomarryeachoneofthem
18、.Herassistantexplainedthemistakeandsaidtothemen:MissBourke-Whitelovesnothingbuthercamera.Bytheendofthetrip,MargaretBourke-WhitehadtraveledeightthousandkilometersthroughouttheSovietUnion.Shetookhundredsofpictures,andpublishedsomeoftheminherfirstbook,EyesonRussia.Shereturnedthenextyeartoprepareforaser
