4、deducationandtohaveabetterlife.WhenShirleywasthreeyearsoldherparentssentherandhersisterstolivewiththeirgrandmotherinBarbados.ShirleyreceivedagoodeducationfromtheBritishschoolsystem.Sheenjoyedtheyearsshelivedwithhergrandmother.HerfamilyinBarbadoswasastrong,organizedgroupthatbelievedineducation.Shirle

13、nizationforWomen.MizChisholmwasanactivistforpeopleofcolor,includingNativeAmericansandSpanish-speakingimmigrants.Sheoftenspokeaboutculturalandsocialissues.(SOUND)IncreasingimmigrationtotheUnitedStatessuggeststhatwedoface(-andwebetterownupto-Wedoface)newsocialandculturalproblemsasthesenewAmericansarei

17、dofthat.Iamnotthecandidateofanypoliticalbossesorspecialinterests.Iamthecandidateofthepeople.MizChisholmdidnotwintheDemocraticprimariesorthenomination.Shesaidshedidnotrunforpresidentbecausesheexpectedtowin.Sherantomakeapoint.Innineteenseventy-threeShirleyChisholmwroteanotherbook,TheGoodFight.Inthatbo
