3、ticcanceretiology.Weevaluatedwhetheroralmicrobiomeisassociatedwithriskofpancreaticcancerandpancreatitis.Oralwashsampleswerecollectedfrom13pancreaticcancerpatients,3pancreatitispatientsand12healthycontrolsatNYULangoneMedicalCenter,NewYork.Ribosomal16SrRNAgenesfromoralwashDNAwereamplifiedbyuniversalpr
4、imers,barcoded,andsequencedwith454FLXtechnology.Thebacterial16SrRNAgenesequenceswerebinnedintooperationaltaxonomicunits(OTUs)with97%identifyandfurtherclassifiedbytaxonomy.NonparametricWilcoxonMannWhiteneyUtestandKuskal-Wallistestwereconductedtocomparetherelativeabundanceoftaxaacrosspancreaticcancer,
5、pancreatitisandcontrolgroups.Atotalof250,008sequencereads(average8,928readspersample)wereobserved.Firmicutes,Bacteroidetes,andActinobacteriaaremajorphyla,accountingfor96.5%oforalmicrobiota.Wefoundthatbacteroidesgenuswassignificantlymoreabundantinbothpancreaticcancerpatients(p=0.002)andpancreatitispa
6、tients(p=0.004)comparedwithcontrolgroup.Further,BLASTsearchresultsindicatethatthespeciesmostcloselyrepresentedbytheBacteroidesOTUswereoralpathogen.Inaddition,Corynebacterium(p=0.033)andAggregatibacter(p=0.019)werelessabundantinpancreaticcancerandpancretitisgroupscomparedwithcontrols.Datafromthispilo
7、tstudyoforalmicrobiomeandpancreaticcancersuggestthatthedifferentialabundanceinbacteriodatesandpossiblyCorynebacteriumandAggregatibacter5areassociatedwithriskofpancreaticcancer.Bacteroides,Gram-negativebacillusbacteria,playsanimportantroleinoralinflammation,includingperiodontitis.Furtherlargerstudies
